Accessing Justice: Legal Aid in Central Asia and the South Caucasus

This comparative report outlines the status of access to justice in six countries – Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It introduces the legal frameworks for access to lawyers and legal advice on the national and international levels, specifically highlighting access to justice in criminal matters, civil and administrative matters, and for vulnerable groups. The authors have also included an analysis of trends and challenges in access to justice in the region as of 2013. Under each identified challenge area, the report offers directions for action to improve access to justice for the people of the six countries.

This report is a part of UNDP Regional Centre for Europe and the CIS’s initiative ‘Legal Aid for Justice’.
