Evidence is not enough to secure land rights in Myanmar [English]

Using case data, this policy brief examines the role of land documentation in farmers’ efforts to secure their land rights in Myanmar. Overall we find that documentation does not seem to influence the outcome of resolving a dispute, but that the system discriminates in processing the claims of those without documentation. The majority of farmers in Myanmar do not have historical land documentation.
