Know Your Rights: A Simplified Guide to Your Rights Against Sexual Violence

This booklet, by the Women’s Legal Centre of South Africa, was put together in an effort to provide women better information of their rights regarding sexual violence. After realizing that many women do not report acts of sexual violence because they are unaware that they have the right to not have those acts committed against them, the Women’s Legal Centre put together this booklet so that women will be empowered to understand when an act of sexual violence has been committed, and what steps they can take to pursue justice against their attacker. The booklet also acknowledges that men can be victims of sexual violence and includes their perspective. Finally, the booklet acknowledges sexual crimes against children but focuses primarily on persons over the age of 18.
