Aniket is an Acumen India Fellow 2018 and an alumnus of the Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. He is also a Forbes 30 under 30 Asia, 2019 winner.
Through his Teach For India fellowship, working at the Gyan Prakash Foundation and at Indus Action, Aniket has more than eight years of experience in the development sector in India. During these years, he gained firsthand understanding of the many challenges families from under-resourced communities face.
The Teach For India fellowship—a two year program to teach in some of the most under-resourced schools and communities in India—helped him understand the context and realities of the communities and lives of families at the bottom of the income pyramid. The classroom experience also helped him gain the leadership skills and experience which paved the way for him to make the career choices he made post the fellowship, which eventually led to him to co-found Haqdarshak Empowerment Solutions Pvt Ltd (also known as HESPL or Haqdarshak).
While he was working as a Teach For India fellow in the urban slums of Pune, he started helping citizens to apply for the Right to Education (RTE) scheme. He had seen there was a mismatch between the rights granted by the Indian law and the implementation of those rights. He realised that citizens were being overcharged to gain access to information about the schemes (under the pretext of false promises) by formal and informal agencies working on the ground in villages and urban slum communities. Additionally, very few people actually knew what they were entitled to, and for those who did know about these schemes, they didn’t actually know how to apply for them because no one had shown them.
He soon understood that technology could play a key role in bridging this gap and this is how he came to start working on the concept of Haqdarshak. Haqdarshak wants to transform how citizens access their entitlements, and also establish a network of community entrepreneurs that can help the delivery of these welfare schemes. It’s ultimate goal is to help poverty alleviation by improving and increasing access to welfare schemes.
