Sugeng is known as an expert in public policy, democracy and economic issues who has worked for more than 20 years in national and international NGOs. Sugeng has also written several books and articles (journals, print media) with the above themes and has been a resource for various universities and institutions, both at national and international levels. Sugeng has received education and training at home and abroad such as in Yogyakarta (UGM), Washington DC (SIT), England (University of Sussex) and Belgium. Sugeng Bahagijo was listed as a Member of the National Vocational Training Committee (KPVN); a member of the National Wage Council (Depenas); Open Government Indonesia Steering Committee; Director of the School of Democracy (KID) 2010-2011; Deputy Director of the Prakarsa 2005-2009; Policy Advisor for Poverty Reduction Strategy at the Coordinating Ministry for People's Welfare 2005; Bappenas-Experts on Poverty Reduction Strategy 2004; GIZ International Institution Consultants, Oxfam, NDI-World Bank, NIMD; Human Rights Watch-HRW New York as an Intern Researcher, HRW 1996 - 1997.
