Interests: Community / Customary Land Rights, Environmental Justice
Melinda is an international human rights and environmental lawyer. She has drafted legislation to recognise and protect Amerindian collective rights to land in Guyana. She has helped the Wai Wai people to set up one of the world's few protected areas that is completely owned and controlled by native people. Melinda's work has also resulted in changes to the constitution and national legislation to protect the environment, public access to information and public rights to participation. Melinda is looking to learn from the experience of others in the Namati network and to share her own experience and knowledge.
