I am a South African lawyer with more than 10 years experience working on the enforcement and protection of land rights. Through my work with a public interest human rights organisation in South Africa I have had the opportunity to develop and litigate a number of cases aimed at developing and enforcing laws surrounding land reform and restitution, tenure security and urban housing rights. I have also been involved in developing community land governance structures and promoting gender equality within the context of land tenure security. Following a Masters in Development Studies I moved to Ethiopia, where I worked as a law and policy advisor to the Federal Environment, Forest and Climate Change Commission. Currently, I am based in the Scotland where I work as a Senior Researcher within the Legal Tools Team of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). My work is currently focused on advancing and strengthening land governance practice within the context of large scale land-based investments.
