I am a graduate from the University of Zimbabwe with a degree in Political Science. I am passionate about human rights, particularly those of women and youth and is committed to ensuring they have a voice that is heard within the governance discourse. My interest in accountability issues stems from working with and equipping rural and urban communities to actively engage in holding their local leadership to account . Within my work l have been focused on encouraging young women to be more engaged with their local governance structures, and their local leadership. I have conducted numerous research projects exploring factors affecting and influencing active citizenship of women and youth in Zimbabwe. I have designed and implemented various dialogue platforms and public conversations to motivate the active participation of women and youth in governance. In my organisation I am responsible for running a project called Civic Action teams (CivActs) which uses a social accountability approach to demand accountability from the state. The project includes raising awareness to citizens on Constitutional provisions and laws concerning transparency and accountability of state actors. It further promotes and supports citizen participation in law-making processes. ALZ uses data generated by CivActs to influence policies, processes and practices around critical accountability issues through bringing people together to advocate for change. I am looking to join LEN so l may have an opportunity to learn from and network with other like minded individuals and organisations. I would like also like to learn how l can better incorporate legal empowerment approaches in the the work l am currently doing.
