Abass Umar Thullah is a human rights activist/defender and community development advocate, who have over 7 years wealth of experience in activism and advocacy. Abass was a public servant attached at the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board as Regional Outreach Officer and Alternative Dispute Resolution's Officer, a position he held for almost 5 years. Currently, he's the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Advocacy for Human Rights and Justice-Sierra Leone (ADHRJUST-SL), a non-profitable and non-political community based organization dedicated to advocating, promoting and protecting human rights, good governance, transitional justice, gender equality, women's empowerment, the rule of law among many others and ensuring everyone, especially the marginalized and disadvantaged ones in rural communities are accessible to justice. Again, he's a member of the District Security Committee (DISEC), Bombali and the Provincial Security Committee (PROSEC), North respectively. Under period review, Abass had successfully advocated and secured bail for over 6000 detainees and suspects in cells from different police stations, victims of gender and sexual based violence. juveniles and young persons in conflict with the law across the country. Mediated/resolved over 3000 family and marital disputes, land, debts and child maintenance cases/matters through means of alternative disputes resolutions mechanism (ADR). Educationally empowered deprived and marginalized school going children with the provision of books, school bags, shoes, uniforms and payment of school fees. Economically empowered over 2500 women with loan, through social safety net scheme. Engaged schools, communities, Radio/TVs outreach activities on issues of human rights and justice. Additionally, through funding support of Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF), his organization (Advocacy for human rights and justice-sierra leone )in collaboration with the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST), Makeni University Campus has been successfully established a transitional justice clinic at EBKUST Makeni campus, the clinic is aimed at nurturing knowledge for the development and expansion of transitional justice discourses in bombali district and sierra leone at large, thus encouraging the development and introduction of transitional justice in schools and university curriculum. Moving forward, it's nothing more than trust and confidence could have prompted Abass to join this network, it's because he's looking for meeting, networking, partnering and collaborating with other change-makers/organizations across the globe, gaining experience with different skills, approaches and techniques from both national and international organizations among many others.
