An indigenous-led Ecuadorian non-profit working towards the defense of indigenous territory, cultural survival, and the building of viable solutions-based alternatives to rainforest destruction.

Presence in: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru
Focus: Community / Customary Land Rights, Environmental Justice, Traditional / Customary Justice

The Ceibo Alliance (Ceibo) is an indigenous-led Ecuadorian non-profit organization comprised of members of the Kofan, Siona, Secoya and Waorani peoples, who, in partnership with Amazon Frontlines, is creating a model of indigenous resistance and international solidarity rooted in the defense of indigenous territory, cultural survival, and the building of viable solutions-based alternatives to rainforest destruction.

Ceibo is the first alliance of its kind in the region. Formed by members of the very communities it serves, the Ceibo Alliance is in an ideal position to address their needs through projects designed, developed and managed by the indigenous communities themselves.

We are creating spaces for leaders and youth from these indigenous nations to construct together a shared understanding of the threats facing their communities, the causes of these threats, and to build collective knowledge around how to create legal and advocacy strategies that directly address the unique challenges faced by each community. Our legal team then accompanies the Indigenous Rights Defenders and their communities in actions to defend and to recover their ancestral rainforest territories.
