Our Objectives

  • To promote transparency in public affairs-elected officials can report on their accomplishments and reach their constituents.
  • To build trust and cohesion between people of different cultures, tribes, faiths and backgrounds.
  • To provide residents of Tana Delta with a platform for public participation.
  • To give voice to Tana Delta residents by allowing them to participate and provide their input on the community’s issues.
  • To provide accurate information about national and local electoral processes, procedures, and dates.
  • To help improve education and health – for example, by explaining how good hygiene can stop    diseases spreading, or how better irrigation practices can help in using water more effectively.
  • To address social issues – for example, by challenging social attitudes towards harmful practices such female genital mutilation.
  • To alleviate poverty – for example, by helping to stimulate the development of micro-enterprise and wealth-generation schemes.

I'm a project manager by profession working as a program manager for the Sentinel Project a Canada based non-profit that focuses on innovative solutions to long standing conflict in different parts of the world. I recently graduated with a Masters in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi and currently pursuing an Masters degree in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration at the University of London. Having worked for over 6 years in conflict prone areas in Kenya, South Sudan, DRC and Northern Uganda, I realized that one of the biggest challenges that communities impacted by violence face is the lack of knowledge of the existing legal procedures that can enable them access justice. I founded a community based organization in Tana River County of Kenya one of the areas that has previously faced inter-ethnic violence leading to massacre and with the help of well wishers managed to establish a community radio in the area- Amani FM which has been at the forefront preaching peace and passing on valuable information to the communities while giving them a voice. I think joining this network will enable my organization which uses information to reach out to marginalized and minority communities understand the existing legal processes and pass down the same information to the grassroots which consequently will need to better understanding of rights and the justice system.
