I work as Madagascar Country Director for Blue Ventures.

Blue Ventures is an award-winning marine conservation organisation working to rebuild tropical
fisheries with coastal communities. We’re committed to protecting marine biodiversity in ways that
benefit coastal people. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies,
and where there is a fundamental unmet need to support human development. We support communities in putting in place local governance tools to manage their resources, using both national and customary law.

These communities are very vulnerable and in great need of legal empowerment, hence my interest in Namati.

I have been passionate about marine conservation in the tropics for many years. I live in south west Madagascar where I work for the NGO Blue Ventures to support coastal communities to rebuild inshore fisheries through a holistic approach to marine conservation. My job as South West Regional Manager puts me in the privileged position of coordinating multiple community programs and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders in order to achieve our mission. I believe this gives me a good vantage point to see the great need for grassroots legal empowerment in Madagascar. Environmental justice in the country is weak and small-scale fishers are often completely disenfranchised from the state. As a practitioner, I am hoping the Namati network will provide me with pragmatic solutions and accessible information to support communities to defend their rights over their resources and seascape zones.
