CADEM

Mogbwemo, Sierra Leone
Joined December 2016
Presence in: Sierra Leone

CADEM is a non governmental organisation based in Impere Chiefdom, Bonthe District. It advocates for the impoverished and deprived people of Impere and other mining affected chiefdoms. Its late executive director was the late Mr. Leslie Mboka (may the lord bless him).

Sierra Rutile operation started 1954 and was known as sherbro minerals. Presently it is called Sierra Rutile Ltd. It has its epicentre of its operations in Impere Chiefdom. Tens of thousands of acres of land have been destroyed since that time and no realistic land reclamation process have taken place.

The inception of community advocacy and development movement (CADEM) was to address the above environmental and social issues caused by the Rutile and Vemetco Mines.

Thank you brothers and sisters. It is an indigenous struggle and it will continue People from Imperi are now to look on to the way forward, after such massive destruction of their land by mining activities with little or nothing to point at for children yet on born.
