CALIBRATE

Change. For Good. Access to justice strategy, project leadership and justice system transformation.

Presence in: Canada
Focus: Access to Information, Citizenship, Criminal Justice, Economic Empowerment, Education, Family, Gender-based violence, Generalist Legal Services, Governance, Labor & Employment, Peace-building, Traditional / Customary Justice, Women's Rights
At CALIBRATE we are committed to realizing concrete improvements in access to justice as a critical element of a healthy democracy.
We envision a society in which people have the skills to understand and take action on legal issues, have confidence in formal and informal dispute resolution and recognize that conflict, a common aspect of everyday life, can be best managed through early, appropriate and affordable steps.
In an era of reconciliation, we are working within the justice system, and other institutions to build better relationships with indigenous communities. We work collaboratively with the legal institutions, committed individuals and community agencies to find innovative, system-wide solutions. We undertake complex project management, program evaluations, and public engagement initiatives.

I am a Strategist on Access to Justice in Canada and internationally. As the founder of CALIBRATE, I work with small and large organizations to tackle access to justice challenges. I have over 20 years of experience as a staff member, a volunteer, and a board member in the access to justice, legal and non-profit community.

I received a J.D law degree from University of Victoria, and a Masters of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. I spent 10 years as OJEN’s Executive Director, running a large not-profit focused on legal capability and empowerment. I speak and write about legal capability, plain language and system change to make the legal system work better for people.

I am looking to connect with others working on these issues and to learn about initiatives in other locations. I am looking for opportunities to work to advance legal empowerment.
Sarah McCoubrey is the network champion (main point of contact) for CALIBRATE.
