I am Lawyer who is interested and involved in the promotion of Human Rights and Justice especially the Right of Women and the girl child.
Gender based violence (GBV),female genital mutilation (FGM), Breast ironing, deprivation of woman from owning land, early marriages and the minimal or not participation of women in leadership and politics are a few of the ills against women which are sickening to me.
Through my organization that is the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in African wherein i work on the Gender Desk (Gender Task Force), we organize capacity building programs for women.
We run a legal clinic wherein women who have suffered one form of violence or discrimination come to complain.
We assist in crisis situation in documenting and providing legal aid and first line responses to victims.
We record and document the casualties, etc.
This network will enable me learn best practices from other individuals, other organisations and other nations as a whole.
Awungnjia Tetchounkwi is the network champion (main point of contact) for Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA).
