Strengthening youth resilience and enhancing equitable socio-economic empowerment that breaks the cycle of poverty and dependency for youth in Siaya County

The project will run for six months and will implement activities revolving around strengthening youth resilience and enhancing equitable socio-economic empowerment that breaks the cycle of poverty and dependency for youth in Siaya County by empowering the youth to take part in public discourse and be part to key decision making processes affecting their lives and that of their communities. The project also aims to improve the economic capacity of target youth by providing alternative livelihood opportunities through increased access to market, business finance and entrepreneurship skills. The project will support the establishment and capacity building of 12 legitimate youth groups in order to provide an effective platform for participation, engagement and articulation of youth interests in governance processes.

(Expected) Results: The project is expected to:

  • Increase understanding and youth participation on the goal of enhancing youth participation in governance and social economic development

  • Structure partnership between CREGD and tertiary institutions and/or youth polytechnics and increase knowledge among participants on group dynamics, entrepreneurship and HRBA

  • Increase knowledge on project fund-raising, improve level of group sustainability, provide easy access to vital information by the youth and increase synergy in project implementation

  • Enhance collaboration among stakeholders in the implementation of enhancing youth participation in governance and social economic development.

  • Increase number of legitimate youth groups focussing on issues of governance and social economic development and increase partnership and support for capacity building of youths in areas of social economic and skills development.

  • Create new linkages between the youth groups and micro-finance institutions and government agencies

I am a Paralegal Trainer and fellow of Akiba Uhaki Foundation (AUF) and University of Bagamoyo (UoB) 2014 Human Rights and Social Justice Fellowship Programme. I currently work with Centre for Rights Education, Governance and Development (CREGD) as Projects Coordinator. I also sit in the Management Committee of Constitution and Reform Education Consortium (CRECO Trust) as the Vice Chairperson. CRECO Trust is a Network of 23 Civil Society Organizations in Kenya that belongs to the broad Human rights, Governance and Democracy category of NGOs. Before joining CREGD, I worked with Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (TEAM) between March and November 2014 as a Programme Officer in charge of Human Rights. I also worked with Legal Resources Foundation Trust (LRF) in positions of Programme Assistant, Assistant Programme Officer and Project Officer. This was between January 2006 and March 2014. I am an alumnus of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), Youth Political Leadership Academy. I have been actively involved in Human Rights Education work both in the Criminal Justice system and in the general civic education over the years. I hold Bachelors of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies (Development Communication) through the University of Nairobi and have also undertaken training in other areas including Paralegal Law and Practice, Security Management and Protection for Human Rights Defenders.

am a community worker leading a team of citizen voice and action in siaya Kenya. we empower communities to raise their voices on development especially on health, education and child protection. the work include educating the community on land rights,women and property, marriage laws in Kenya. we also work on reduced gender based violence through a concept of skillful parenting education to caregivers in our community.
