I am a human rights activist from indigenous Newar community of Nepal. I have been engaged in promoting and protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and marginalized communities for over a decade now. Thereby, I specialize in human rights advocacy in the contexts of impacts of development finance, business operations and international investments. I have extensive working experience at regional and international levels as a Consultant with the Secretariat of UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York, the Human Rights Programme Coordinator and Advisor with the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) in Thailand and a Steering Committee member and Asia regional representative of the Coalition of Human Rights in Development, among others. I currently coordinate the Community Empowerment & Social Justice Network (CEMSOJ) in Nepal that I founded in 2015 and have previously worked with different human rights organizations in the country.

I am an indigenous and women’s rights activist and community-based development enthusiast. I am currently engaged as the Program and Research Officer with the Community Empowerment and Social Justice Network/Foundation (CEMSOJ) in Nepal. I have been engaged in assisting indigenous and rural communities to assert their rights that are threatened in the contexts of “development” and business projects. I have also been involved in a pilot initiative to enhance access to energy and other social services for rural indigenous communities in central Nepal. In my work, I tend to focus on the specific impacts and issues that women and youth of those communities face and how to address them.
I started my NGO career as an intern with the CEMSOJ in 2017 and was subsequently hired as a Program Assistant and more recently as Program and Research Officer with the organization. I currently provide overall support for implementation of CEMSOJ’s programs/initiatives, campaigns and projects, including in awareness raising and capacity building activities, media monitoring and information sharing, documentation and research studies, and particularly assist in the Campaign to Promote a Human-Rights Based Approach to Renewable Energy Development to advance the just transition in Nepal.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Rural Development from the Tribhuvan University affiliated Patan Multiple Campus in Nepal. For my future studies and career, I aim to specialize in international human rights law and grassroots-led development practices and thus am always to learn further in relation to those areas. That is also why I am looking to join the network.
