A. DQG’s Vision

An equitable and safe Afghanistan in which women, children and men can receive justice.

B. DQG’s Goal

To advance Afghan society through the promotion of a legal system based on human rights.

C. DQG’s Purpose

  1. To undertake research on law-related issues in Afghanistan and provide advice to Afghan legal entities;
  2. To train legal practitioners and Sharia law students, and to raise the awareness of the public regarding Afghan law and human rights; and
  3. To provide legal aid for vulnerable people, including women, children and men.

D. DQG’s Areas of Focus

  • Increase access to justice for all Afghans especially women and children;
  • Guarantee fair trials through the provision of legal representation;
  • Ensure that women and girls, particularly vulnerable segments of society, are provided with free legal assistance;
  • Legal capacity building of judges, prosecutors, lawyers and relevant University Students;
  • Increase the public’s legal awareness related to women’s rights; and
  • Contribute collectively towards the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and ensure gender equality, as stipulated in the Afghan Constitution.

Freshta Karimi is the Founder and Director of Da Qanoon Ghushtonky (DQG – “Seeker of Law” in Pashto), one of the largest legal aid service organizations in Afghanistan. Ms. Karimi was born in 1983 in Kabul. She received her Law degree in 2014 from Payam-e-Noor University in Kabul.
Freshta Karimi has dedicated her career to improving access to justice and promoting women and children’s rights since 2002. She is also a member of several groups advocating policy changes and has traveled extensively internationally representing her organization and promoting various women’s rights issues and highlighting the concerns of Afghan women. As an activist from the ‘new generation’ of Afghan women, Ms. Karimi has already affected change within her own organization and is committed to building a more secure and safe country for vulnerable groups.
