Bina Ramanand co-founded the Foreign Spouses Support Group Malaysia (@FSSGMY) in 2009 with the aim of advancing, promoting and protecting the rights of couples and families in transnational marriages. She was motivated by her own lived experiences, as a foreigner and subjected to insurmountable challenges while raising her Malaysian children in the country.
Over the last 5 years, Bina has expanded FSSG’s advocacy to also include Malaysian women and men who face discrimination with regards to the conferment of citizenship rights on their children. She is the lead coordinator for the ‘Malaysian Campaign for Equal Citizenship’, which aims to achieve law reforms to enable Malaysian women and men to confer citizenship on their children and spouses on an equal basis. She now leads Family Frontiers that overseas the work of FSSG and the Malaysian Campaign for equal citizenship.
By joining the Legal Empowerment Network, I would like to draw on the expertise and best practices on the Impact of Legal Empowerment in communities.
Bina Ramanand is the network champion (main point of contact) for Family Frontiers Malaysia.
