Feminist Dalit Organization is an apolitical, non-governmental organization founded in 1994 by a group of Dali women to address caste and gender discrimination against Dalit women, particularly gender-based violence. Dalit women are subjected to caste and gender-based discrimination, physical, sexual and psychological abuse, trafficking, child marriage, accusation of witchcraft, inter-caste marriage and domestic violence. They suffer from triple discrimination as oppressed by the so-called high caste people, oppressed by the design of the Hindu patriarchal system and oppressed by Dalit male counterparts. Dalit community remains deprived of human rights in the society, and continue to suffer from untouchability, social exclusion, marginalization and economic deprivation.
Against this backdrop, project support is requested to make women, community and concerned stakeholders aware and sensitized of human rights and associated responsibilities towards combating discrimination for advancing human rights of Dalit women. The project will be implemented for one year to fight discrimination for advancing human rights of women and Dalit community through strengthening the movement-building infrastructure at the local level. The project will address this goal by reaching the specific project objectives are: (i) organize community people especially Dalit women and people from Dalit and other excluded groups and strengthen their capacity to promote and protect human rights at local level; and (ii) make government agencies, human right institutions, political parties and civil society organizations accountable and responsive to address the discriminatory issues of Dalit women and Dalit community for promoting and protecting the human rights during the funding period.
