Foro Penal, is a non-profit NGO formed by 160 lawyers nationwide, including a group of more than 4000 human rights activists who actively promote human rights. Foro Penal assist victims of human rights violations and government repression by representing them at the criminal court, and filing their cases to diverse international organizations, with an effective record of over 15 years providing legal assistance and support to families and victims.
Over the past years Venezuelan’s government has been using the justice system as a weapon of political repression, in consequence Foro Penal have been registering multiple detentions arising out of demonstrations against the government.
One of Foro Penal’s big achievement is being able to register every person who is arrested. To have this data base could not have being acquired without Mr. Himiob and volunteers work.
More than 11900 persons have been arrested since February 2014, with the largest number of detainees being students.
