Pakistan from its very existence is confronted with a host of problems. Human deprivation in the form of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, mal-nourishment, social injustice and violation of basic civil rights is unfortunately the fate of large majority of population. This has been mainly due to the wide-scale corruption and inefficiencies in the government development departments and improper role of civil society organizations in the country. In response to the call for greater community based development initiatives a large number of non-governmental volunteer social organizations and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) have since emerged.

Fundamental Human Rights & Rural Development Association FHRRDA is also one of such NGOs, which was formed in 1996 to participate in the process of development and social uplift of the backward areas of the province of Sindh. FHRRDA is one of the few organizations with a wide-range agenda on development. In its short span of existence, FHRRDA has been actively involved in the development projects in the areas of non-formal education, sanitation, environmental protection, human rights, advocacy, political education/awareness, primary health care, capacity building of grass-root local CBOs, disaster relief services etc

The Association has come to be recognized nationally and internationally as a major institution for women’s development in the country. Over the last 8 years the Association has also emerged as a major support organization for civil society organizations working for social change at the community level.

A mutually collaborative relationship has been developed with various departments and organs of the Government of Pakistan. The Association doing advocacy with them at the policymaking and implementation levels to reflect women’s concerns in policies and to create linkages for implementation for women at the grass roots levels
