Grassroots Development Support & Rural Enlightenment Initiative -Gdev, Nigeria

Gdev, Nigeria  was formally known as Vanguard for Change, Nigeria.  It is a non  governmental, nonprofit making organization, and a multi-disciplinary organization that seeks to enhance and support constructive engagement between citizens and the government through advocacy and capacity building; strengthens public sector governance system, policy frameworks and monitoring electoral process, while mobilizing resources to solve specific and critical community’s development priority needs.

It was established in December 2004 with 15 members [ 9 male and 6 females], and was registered by Delta State in Government as Vanguard for Change in June, 2012

In August 2017, the organization name was changed from Vanguard for Change to the present Grassroots Development Support & Rural Enlightenment Initiative and consequently applied to the Corporate Affairs Commission [CAC] Abuja for registration with all required documentation and processes concluded.

Our mission is to support communities to be self-empowered for sustainable livelihood through active participation of her citizens in all development process.

Gdev now have 30 members among which 5 are board members, with 3 paid staff and 25 active volunteers.

Specifically, our activities includes:

  • Democracy & Good Governance
  • Human Rights.
  • Primary Health Care.
  • Education & skill development.
  • Gender issues.
  • Sustainable environment,
  • Water and Sanitation ;and
  • Disaster Management.          

We are currently working in the 36 states of the Nigeria’s federation and Abuja.

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and Management. I am the immediate past Programme officer [Governance and Community/Government Engagement] with the Justice, Development and Peace/Caritas, Onitsha, Anambra State,Nigeria

My expertise includes: Participatory governance, environmental governance, human rights, particularly the rights of women and girls, community mobilization, engagement and development.

I am joining the network to learn and improve my knowledge on innovative approaches to solving human rights related issues in my community, state and in the country.

I am human right activist,i have been working with number of civil society organization ,struggling for the right of different groups of people,youths,women,i have great experience on the issues related to policy matters,having 16 years working and struggles for the right of older people,having membership in Global network for rights of old people.In the organization i am a body member , what am looking for join the network is to share and learn from other members all about legal support and intervention on how to empower different groups in the community legally so as to know their right and hence improve their well being .
