Horn of Africa Institute (HAI) formally known as Foundation for Pastoralists Women(FFPW) is a regional not-for-profit organization that works to expand its scope to some nine countries – Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Somalia, Eritrea, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and Djibouti in Eastern and Horn of Africa region, to secure, protect and improve the lives, livelihoods and Rights of Pastoralist Communities – especially women and girls. In Kenya, our programing landscape covers over 10 counties in Northern Kenya (Isiolo, Turkana, Baringo, Westpokot, Samburu, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River), each with its own history and experience on land and natural resources management.

Our Mission: To address the root causes of pastoral vulnerability and especially those that limit the capacities of women and girls.
Our Programs:
1. Women and Girl’s Empowerment
Educating and Amplifying voices of women and Girls to prevention and response on Sexual Gender Based Violence’s (SGBVs) and Contributing to securing equal access to rights, opportunities and increasing presence of women leaders at all decision-making levels across the Horn of Africa as well as social Inclusion.
2. Communities’ Resilience Building
Building Capacities and enhancing knowledge of pastoralist’s communities and institutions to developing and strengthening partnerships advocating to Strengthening Rangeland Land Governance (SRLG) and Environmental Climate-Resilient.
3. Strengthening Systems
Enhancing and Building capacities of government leaders and private sectors at County, National and Regional levels to adequately address the needs of pastoralist’s communities and contribute to Strengthen the Capacities of Traditional Systems to Influencing Community Institutions to increase their participation in decision-making on land resources and provisions of land laws and policies.
