Human Rights Focus (HURIFO) is a member-based human rights organisation with a countrywide mandate to promote and defend human rights. It was founded in 1994 in Northern Uganda to respond to the then deteriorating human rights situation in the region, resulting from civil strife and armed rebellion. HURIFO is registered in Uganda as an NGO with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and as a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is govern by Board of Trustees and a Board of Directors.

HURIFO subscribes to a number of national human rights networks including Human Rights Network-Uganda (HURINET-U), Convention Against Torture (CAT), Northern Uganda Human Rights Platform (NUHRP) and Gulu District NGO Forum, among other human rights networks. It has an extensive network of relationships with other organisations, local, national and international, working in the areas of human rights, transitional justice, democracy, and good governance.

HURIFO visions “an environment where all rights are fulfilled and enjoyed” and its mission is “to promote the protection and respect of all human rights through strengthening local communities’ and duty bearers’ capacity to effectively discharge their obligations and to demand and access services.”

I am the Executive Director at Human Rights Focus (HURIFO). Born in northern Uganda in 1965, studied diploma in education, degree in Adult and Community Education and masters in Development Studies.
I am a human rights activist since 1992, and a trade union and community educator. As the head of Human Rights Focus, our organization and I engage in human rights protection and promotion by; providing legal aids services for the indigents and oppressed; carryout community sensitization and training to create awareness of human rights and development issues; carryout policy and human rights research and advocacy and routinely monitor, document and report on human rights situations for corrective actions.
My passion for joining this network is mainly for sharing knowledge, information, lessons learnt, and strategies of how protect and promote human rights and development. Jointly working to minimize, poverty, oppression and inequality.
Odongyoo Francis is the network champion (main point of contact) for Human Rights Focus.
