The Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. (HLAF) is a non-government and a non-profit organisation registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Founded in 2001, HLAF envisions a world order founded on the universal respect for human rights, especially for the right and freedom against arbitrary and unjust imprisonment, in all its forms.

HLAF specifically focuses on the protection of the rights of persons deprived of liberty especially those who are most vulnerable such as the children, the elderly, the women, the sick and the differently-abled. HLAF also advocates and works for the proper implementation of the juvenile justice and welfare act.

Currently, HLAF has three main programs namely, the HLAF Jail Decongestion (JD) Program (2014-2016), the HLAF Center for Restorative Action (CRA) Program (2014-2016) and HLAF Program for the Reintegration of Ex-Detainees (FRED). HLAF is mainly supported by the MCKS Charitable Institution and by generous individual donors.

My name is Aubree Sadural and I am an advocate for human rights.

I am working as HLAF Jail Decongestion Program Officer, and under this program, we coordinate with the Philippine Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in forwarding the rights of the persons behind bars.

The opportunity to join and participate in NAMATI can be an avenue for me to evaluate the aspects of the work I am doing and enable me to be more effective in communicating why we need to help those people behind bars.
