The Initiative for Gender Equality and Development in Africa (IGED-Africa) strives to promote and strengthen the voice, capacity and participation of women and young people in the realization of their rights and development through research, training and advocacy at the community, national, regional and international levels.

IGED-Africa has worked to raise awareness on women’s property and inheritance rights in the context of HIV and AIDs via training of grassroots women and girls in Ghana, built capacity among media workers about HIV-AIDs and inheritance rights and policy advocacy on women’s property and inheritance rights in Ghana. IGED-Africa has also participated in joint reports to CEDAW, and strategic international meetings on women’s right to property and inheritance in Africa. They have also contributed to the development of several instruments from the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights, including a thematic Resolution on Women’s Land and Property Rights in Africa and a General Comment to the Maputo Protocol on Women’s Land and Property Rights.
