PRESENTATION OF ILOFEM BURUNDI

LOFEM-Burundi was founded in 2013 and was registered by the Ministry of Home Affairs on February 3rd, 2014 under M/Order No. 530/131. With more than 6 years of providing assistance to the most deprived people in rural communities, the main goal of ILOFEM-Burundi is to improve the socio-economic well-being of women, girls and children and fight the root causes of poverty.

Since its inception, ILOFEM has been helping vulnerable women, youth and children in rural settings by gathering them in community cooperatives and villages savings and loans associations, where they would start group income and generating activities and own. More than 1000 women have been reached with 615 IGAs created, permitting them to go from 1 US$ of income a day to 2.5 US$ a day. This, had a big impact on personal and family economy. Sensitization campaign and training on women rights reached 2000 persons, including men, women, girls and youth segments.

The mission of ILOFEM is to contribute to the improvement of women, girls and children’ living condition and coordinate initiatives of women for women in order to achieve integrated development in Burundi.

To achieve its mission and vision, ILOFEM Burundi set four program priorities which are:

  1. Program_1: Women socio – economic empowerment;
  2. Program_2: Fight against gender based violence;
  3. Program_3 : Improving women’s participation ;
  4. Program_4: Promote children’ education and completion.
