Our organisation work with people at the grassroots in the rural areas of the 13(Thirteen) Local Government Areas of Oyo State to promote sustainable human development and improved livelihoods.

Justice, Development and Peace Movement(JDPM) of Catholic Diocese of Oyo is a faith,-based, non-profit and non-governmental organisation which was established to cater for all people, with emphasis on the poor and the vulnerable irrespective of religion, race, age orgender. The organisation is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) , Nigeria with registration number: CAC/IT/No 22933.

MISSION

We work with people at the grassroots to promote sustainable human development and improved livelihoods.

JDPM OBJECTIVES

  1. Building capacity of the minority, the poor and the vulnerable to enable them participate in their own well-being and development.
  2. Uplifting social justice, democratic value, human rights culture and human dignity in the society.
  3. Networking and collaborating with other local, national, and international development agencies, people of different faiths and persuasions to effectively address common social concern.

JDPM ACTIVITIES

Democracy and Good Governance; Human Rights Promotion and Protection; Monitoring of Democracy/Public Budget; Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development; Entrepreneur Development and Micro-credit Programme; Youth Development and Formation; Community Outreach; Alternative Dispute Resolution and Free Legal Aid; Conflict Resolution Management.

  • The supremacy of the worth of the human being.
  • Articulation of development issues through popular participatory approach.
  • Human development must be total and inclusive of all citizens irrespective of where they stay and what they do.

OPERATIONAL STRATEGIES

JDPM has departments that coordinate programmes, organise monitoring and facilitate evaluation at different levels. The organisation network internally and externally and believes in consultation.

Adenike is a legal officer at Justice, Development and Peace Movement, an NGO based in the South Western Region of Nigeria. I work to ensure that the dignity of human persons are respected and promoted in the coverage areas under our Jurisdiction. So far, I have been involved in activities targeted at empowering the marginalised at the grassroot level.

Networking with professionals and sharing of ideas are my major considerations in joining this network.

I have been the Executive Director of the Catholic Justice, Development and Peace Commission of Lagos Province as well as a Board member of several Human rights organisations in Nigeria. With my organisation we are involved in policy advocacy and grassroots legal empowerment. Through this network I am hoping to learn from other organisations experiences of legal empowerment and lessons learnt to avoid reinvinting the wheel in this field. My office has a team of 7 lawyers at the service of the poor and the organisation of various legal empowement programmes throughout the province.
