Kav LaOved – Worker’s Hotline (KLO) is an independent non-profit, non-governmental, female-led organization. KLO is committed to the defense of workers’ rights and the enforcement of Israeli labor law, designed to protect every worker in Israel, irrespective of nationality, religion, gender and legal status. Since 1991, KLO has maintained various simultaneous programs in order to uphold the rights of marginalized, vulnerable workers in Israeli society, through individual assistance, legal and procedural support, public advocacy, cooperative partnership with governmental bodies, and educational efforts. The organization represents workers from several sectors – in particular those working under minimum wage – such as caregivers, house cleaners, agricultural workers, refugees and asylum seekers and Palestinians working in Israel.

Key activities include education, (para-) legal services and public outreach for policy purposes. More specifically, includes:

  • Individual assistance to workers via public reception hours, the internet (social media and email), and Kav LaOved’s telephone hotline in order to find effective and safe solutions for workers experiencing abuse and exploitation.
  • Public advocacy through development of position papers, participation in parliamentary committees, ongoing dialogue with various government ministries and institutions, and principled petitions to Israeli labor courts.
  • Education and community outreach by raising awareness of workers’ rights in individual workers and society at large via distribution of informational flyers detailing workers’ legal rights in numerous languages, publishing thematic flyers, research and reports, and conducting workshops and lectures for workers as well as students, lawyers, officials, etc.
  • Legal and procedural support by advising and representing workers and partaking in litigation.
