About Us

The Last Hope Refugee Association (LAHORA) is a non-profit organisation promoting and protecting the Human Rights of LGBTIQ refugees and asylum seekers and the access to justice. It was created on June 20, 2018, in Bujumbura in Burundi in a social context marked by violence, criminalization of homosexuality, discrimination and contempt for the human rights of LGBTI people in Burundi.

Invest more to build a world of justice, human rights, respect and tolerance for LGBTIQ refugees.

-Set up a permanent office for the organization and a capacity building program on Human rights.

– Prevention of HIV / AIDS, STIs and awareness on HIV/AIDS, make available a specialized library on HIV / AIDS and reproductive health for LGBTIQ people.

-Legal and judicial assistance for sexual minorities in difficulty.

-Support LGBTIQ sex worker refugees with IGA projects (income-generating activities).

-Extend the activities of Last Hope Refugee Association (LAHORA) to other refugee camps in Burundi and in East African.

-Create a safe house for homeless LGBTIQ refugees and those abandoned by their families and set up a reintegration program.

-A computer training box for refugees and asylum seekers from sexual minorities.

– An operational cybercafé for LGBTIQ refugees.

The activities of the Last Hope Refugee Association (LAHORA) cover the Bujumbura capital city and can gradually expand according to needs and resources to others refugee camps in Burundi.

The Last Hope Refugee Association (LAHORA) was created to contribute to efforts to promote and protect the human rights of LGBTI refugees and to support (moral and health) for LGBTI sexual minorities (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexual).

The HIV / AIDS pandemic ravaging our community is a danger that the Last Hope Refugee Association (LAHORA) must face day to day by adopting appropriate strategies in collaboration with other partners.
