L.A.W.Y.E.R.S has been in existence since the 14th of February 1997 and we are an organization of female lawyers who use the law to protect and promote the rights of women and girls in Sierra Leone.

We provide legal advice and court representation for free to women and girls on a range of matters including matrimonial disputes, maintenance, sexual and domestic violence.

Over the years, L.A.W.Y.E.R.S has been part of various legal and social campaigns to eliminate discrimination against women.

We are part of the First Lady of Sierra Leone’s ongoing campaign to end child marriage in Sierra Leone and I have attached our position paper on this subject.

Members of the L.A.W.Y.E.R.S. have also been instrumental in the passage of key pieces of legislation such as the Child’s Rights Act [2007], the Domestic Violence Act [2007] and the Sexual Offences Act [2012].

L.A.W.Y.E.R.S also provided legal and technical support to Sierra Leone’s recent Constitutional Review Process and we have been at the forefront of the campaign to have a Forensic Analysis Crime Detection Agency (FACDA) created in Sierra Leone. This would greatly strengthen crime detection and prevention in our country.

L.A.W.Y.E.R.S also played an active part during Sierra Leone’s Ebola crisis through radio and television broadcasts and print and social media, to provide information about the disease and how it could be prevented. We also provided support to survivors of the virus through cash donations and the supply of clothes, foot wear and toys.

At L.A.W.Y.E.R.S we are very concerned about all issues affecting women and girls.
