The Legal Aid Center for the Press (LBH Pers) was founded on July 11, 2003 in Jakarta. Legal Aid Center for the Press (LBH Pers) was spearheaded by the Alliance of Independent Journalists and a group of young lawyers who shared the same dream of upholding freedom of the press and expression. Their establishment was also triggered by pressure and control of the media and journalists by many parties, including the government, businessmen, and even politicians, after the fall of Suharto in 1998.

The mission:’give all the effort in creating a democratic civil society by providing legal aid actions to ensure freedom of the press and protection of press workers’

The Legal Aid Center for the Press (LBH Pers) has handled hundreds of cases of journalists and media in court and out of court and also involved in several coalitions with other CSOs in some issues specially related of press freedom, freedom of expression and Internet Freedom.

I'm probono lawyer working for Legal Aid Center for the Press (LBH Pers). The Legal Aid Center for the Press (LBH Pers) was founded on July 11, 2003 in Jakarta. Legal Aid Center for the Press (LBH Pers) was spearheaded by the Alliance of Independent Journalists and a group of young lawyers who shared the same dream of upholding freedom of the press and expression. Their establishment was also triggered by pressure and control of the media and journalists by many parties, including the government, businessmen, and even politicians, after the fall of Suharto in 1998. LBH Pers is based on the principle of the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Vision
- The realization of a democratic civil society through legal aid and protection of press freedom and freedom of expression.
- Give all the effort in creating a democratic civil society by providing legal aid actions to ensure freedom of the press and protection of press workers

The Mission
- Conduct a legal defense for press freedom and freedom of expression cases
- Conduct a legal defense for the violence cases against the press
- Conduct a legal defense for the pers labour cases
- Advocate policies and socialize the meaning of press freedom and freedom of expression

The Legal Aid Center for the Press (LBH Pers) has handled hundreds of cases of journalists and media in court and out of court and also involved in several coalitions with other CSOs in some issues specially related of press freedom, freedom of expression and Internet Freedom.
And LBH Pers also dedicated Tasrif Award in 2012. Tasrif Award is given to individuals/groups/organizations that persistent uphold freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and the values of justice and democracy. AJI Indonesia build a tradition awards Tasrif Award to revive the spirit of Mr. Code of Journalistic Indonesia's fight for freedom of the press and freedom of speech.

Currently Senior Forest Campaigner on Greenpeace Southeast Asia Indonesia, working for Enviromental Justice, Climate Justice also before that  working as Head of Research and Networking Division of Legal Aid Center for the Press since 2013 until 2016, Providing free legal aid, Conduct education and training for advocate, Journalist and law enforment oficer (police, the procecutors and judge) related protection and promotion on freedom of expression, Conduct research, campaigning and networking, Policy advocacy related to freedom of the press and freedom of expression. has experience on Defending freedom of expression in Indonesia and active in various forums both at international and regional level, which relates to freedom of expression, Also Involving in establishment on some regional network of lawyer such as Southeast Asia Lawyers Network (Sea Lawyers/Curently South East Asia Public Interest Lawyers SEAPIL) currently he is one of working commite members of Sea Lawyers and  Advocate for Freedom of Expression Coalition – Southeast Asia (AFEC-SEA), In addition Asep has been a trial observer team member on a number of trials for blogger cases in Vietnam in 2013. Asep has a degree in International Law at the University of Nasional Jakarta.
