micsmile foundation is a civil society organisation that focus on sexual reproductive and maternal health, gender base violence, and economic empowerment. Our project aims at eliminating the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) through full
implementation of the enacted law by the government in Edo State due to increase in the practice
despite the legislation of the law in the state. Project implementation included dissemination of the law
by the State ministry of health (SMOH) in collaboration with other line ministries; the reporting and
prosecution of FGM offenders by the law enforcement agencies with support from the state judiciary. The project also aims at increasing community demand for the prosecution of FGM offenders thereby
eliminating the practice in the state. The project activities include visits to the stakeholders at the state
and community levels, capacity building for the law enforcement agencies on the implementation of the
law as well public enlightenment on the need for the elimination of the FGM practice in the state. So far, the project has contributed to the implementation of law prohibiting the practice of FGM in Edo
State through its advocacy to the State Commissioner for Health who has now inaugurated a 10-
