Movement against Extremism and Electoral Violence

Nairobi, Kenya
Joined June 2020

We work in Coastal counties where many youth were recruited in to extremism and also in electoral violence hot spots. Mission: To work with young people for gainful projects.

Presence in: Kenya
Focus: Gender-based violence, Governance, Accountability & Transparency, Labor & Employment, Livelihoods

Our organization works with youth and women. Most Kenyan male and female youth got recruited and conscripted in to extremism and went across the border to a neighbouring country to fight for what they did not know. Young women suffered sexual gender based violence and suffered serious trauma. Within the country, Kenya has had a bad history of electoral violence  in the whole problem, women, girls and youth have suffered from these violence to appoint of death.

The organization undertakes identification, mobilization and sensitization of young people and women. We also involve law enforcement officers who have also been perpetrators of electoral violence and extrajudicial killings. We are working with Technical and Vocational Education and Training to provide skills training to young people to enable them establish their own businesses or be employable in relevant industries so that they get themselves busy. For electoral violence we have enlisted various stakeholders for engagement and lobbying.
