Maendeleo Rasmi Initiative Community Based Organization (MRI CBO) was registered on 4th August 2020 as a community based organization that employs the rights based approach to address institutional and structural causes of poverty inrural parts of Kisumu County within the Republic of Kenya.                                                                     MRI CBO was formed in response to the need for addressing problems relating to access to justice and services by the poor and vulnerable  citizens and works towards promoting human rights, democracy and good governance for the empowerment of community members i for sustainable socio – economic development.                              The key intervention issues of the CBO included improving access to justice in relation to  Violation of  Community/Customary Land Rights. Most of the rural poor citizens have limited information/access to information about the legal procedures in obtaining land title deeds thereby exposing them to risk of loosing legal ownership to land grabbers. There is limited access to information relating to Traditional/Customary justice among the rural poor especially for widowed women whose rights to property are violated by relatives of deceased husbands and their kins. The situation is worsened by rampant intestate deaths and the weak judicial systems in administration of  succession cases   The end result is limited access to instruments of economic empowerment  due to lack of access to vital documents like marriage certificates, birth certificates, land title deeds, identity cards among others which are often required to initiate legal processes.         The CBO has therefore targeted the above as primary intervention areas and has been conducting rights awareness and economic empowerment forums to enlighten the target group.
