Presence in: South Africa
Focus: Other

Our vision is to ensure that we diligently work together towards attaining the formalisation and recognition of Paralegals in South Africa. With the main aim seeing this profession becoming officially regulated and duly seen as part of the legal process in South Africa, as they are in many other countries. More importantly that they are afforded the opportunity to be recognised for the invaluable role they play.
To see them become integrated in the communities as accessible and affordable Legal assistance and services. It is important that they be able to build their practices in their chosen field and expertise with the proper recognition and support. The future goal is to establish Community Resource centers where paralegal(s) can also work from or at, along with other skilled professionals. Thereby growing them and the profession across South Africa. PALSA will in the future also be looking to see studies for legal secretaries and Paralegals formalized in ways that line up with the above goals and is accredited according to these goals. A category and Grading system will be effected allowing both the Paralegal and the Public to be clear on the field of service and the level of the experience and qualifications of the Paralegal. PALSA will also aim to creating a “candidate” program for Paralegals to partake in, similar to the Law Students “articles” only set up and managed in a manner that is focused on the Paralegals needs. The aim of this is to offer Paralegals hands on learning experience and to afford top Paralegals in the Litigation field an opportunity to hone their skills to the top most standard. The ultimate goal is to become the driving and recognized association for Paralegals across South Africa, strengthening, unifying and regulating this profession, as it so well deserved to be.
