I am a human rights activist based in the Middle East. I have been recognized as a human rights defender by Front Line Defenders for my contribution to the promotion and protection of human rights in the region. My career as a human rights activist started during my university years and thanks to my seminar teacher. I went and wrote my thesis on Transitional Justice focusing on Argentina. Since then, I lived in Argentina working for the Center for Justice and International Law, researched Burmese refugee camps in Thailand, and have focused on Civic Space in the Middle East among other things. In 2013 I founded an organization to advocate for the rights of migrant workers in Kuwait through advocacy, empowerment and innovation. I am joining this network to build a community with similar people and ideas and to support movements by working together and by learning from each other.
Ekaterina Porras Sivolobova is the network champion (main point of contact) for Project 189.
