  • Established in 2004, Radio Gbarnga is a community based media outlet in Gbarnga City, Bong County, Republic of Liberia.
  • It was named after Gbarnga, the capital city of Bong county, which means it is a regional broadcaster considering the central location of Bong county.
  • Residents of surrounding Counties such as Nimba, Lofa, Grand Bassa and Gbapolu Counties also listen to Radio Gbarnga.
  • Radio Gbarnga does not receive fundings/subsidies from Government but survives on the sale of request forms, jingles/advertisements for NGOs, government agencies, businesses, churches and mosques.
  • Workers at the station don’t receive salaries as a result of the lack of fundings but receive stipends at the end of every month, the stipends are almost like a drop in the ocean but yet we muster the courage to continue to persevere.
  • Based upon the hardworking posture and commitment of staffers at Radio Gbarnga, the station is one of the highest carriers of the best community radio station of the year award. This accolade is given to best and hardworking community radio stations every year at an elaborate award night in Monrovia by the umbrella organization for media institutions in Liberia (Press Union of Liberia).
  • Press Union of Liberia has also given individual accolades such as best human rights journalist of the year, development journalist of the year and best newscaster of the year to several individuals from Radio Gbarnga.
