SADAQA-towards a work friendly environment for women in Jordan صداقة: نحو بيئة عمل صديقة للمرأة

The intended goal of SADAQA is to advocate for nationwide compliance with Article 72 of the Labor Law. The adaptation of this article will subsequently create friendlier working environments for employed women and increase the number of daycares within private workplaces as specified within the law. SADAQA kicked off as a campaign in cooperation with Vital Voices and Al Hayat Center for Civil Society Development to accomplish these goals, by first conducting preliminary research on current knowledge, perceptions, and compliance with Article 72. An advocacy campaign was launched to activate the implementation of Article 72 and mobilized concerned NGO’s, women activists as well as women employees, working closely with the Ministry of Labour, parliamentarians, labor unions and chambers of commerce and industry; social media as well other media outlets to raise public awareness about the law. SADAQA organized workshops in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour to raise the level of awareness amongst women employees on their rights in the labour law and specifically Article 72. SADAQA also organized an Awareness WALK that gathered activists, media, NGOs and women employees to raise awareness about the law and women’s rights in the labour force.

Today SADAQA has been institutionalized as a non-for profit organization to activate Article 72 and to work towards friendlier working environment for women.
