SAIDIA has been active in health and development projects in northern Kenya – specifically but not only in Samburu County – for the past 30 years. Increasingly the community challenges link to poor education – both formal education in terms of quality and access, and civic education in the community. Issues around the processes for accessing identity documentation, religious and ethnic biases to be overcome, and poor legal literacy in general have affected the ability of communities to access benefits that other communities can now reach. SAIDIA needs more friendships with other similar groups to help us progress in this area – first to improve the community education around civic rights and around land rights.
