About Tamil Nadu Open University
The Tamil Nadu Open University was established by an Act (No.27 of 2002) of the Legislative Assembly of the Government of Tamil Nadu to benefit those who have been deprived of and/or denied the access to higher education especially destitute, physically challenged, working men and women, economically weaker sections of the society, and those who discontinued education for various reasons, etc. In the main, it aims to reach the hitherto unreached. The University offers many Programmes in various disciplines. Given the geographical extent, population and actual need of Tamil Nadu, the setting up of Tamil Nadu Open University shall prove a boon for women, physically challenged, rural poor and marganalised sections of the society and we are committed to support it academically as well as financially. In a short period, Tamil Nadu Open University has done a remarkable work in taking education to the marginalized sections.
Vision
The Tamil Nadu Open University shall make available innovative, socially relevant educational provisions that are learner centered, seamless and are of high quality by employing appropriate technologies to achieve equity in education, sustainable social transformation and composite national development.
Mission
Towards becoming a Centre of Excellence in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) by offering quality programs to meet the current and emerging needs of the adult population, by widening the access to higher education and by functioning as a catalyst to bridge social, including digital divides and to build a developed India, Tamil Nadu Open University shall:
• Evolve flexible and robust curricula to widen educational access, deepen knowledge frontiers and create entrepreneurial skill sets.
• Reach the rural communities through lifelong learning programmes for livelihood improvement.
• Establish networked environments for quality assurance.
• Bridge the digital divide and implement ‘anywhere, anytime’ learning environments.
• Become a digital repository for ODL in the State facilitating Research and Development for new knowledge creation.

Dr.Anantharamakrishnan Senthivel received his Ph.D, in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli in 2012. He has published nearly 15 articles in regional, national and international journals. He has made nearly 150 presentations in the national and international workshop, seminars and conferences. He is Assistant Professor of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice Administration, in Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai, and his doctoral thesis is child victims of domestic violence in Tirunelveli. He has almost ten years experience in the area of Human rights. Previously he was a Lecturer in Human Rights Education, Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, and prior to that was Zonal Coordinator in the Institute of Human Rights Education of People’s Watch, Madurai. He was the recipient of a Canadian fellowship of the International Human Rights Training Program and was an invited fellow at John Abbott College, Quebec, Canada in 2014. Also invited India team member to involve in the UGC- UKIERI (University Grants Commission - UK India Education and Research Initiative) Project on “Children” Rights along the Journey from Victim to Survivor – Child Victims of Sexual Offences and Criminal Justice and visited Central Lancashire University, Preston, United Kingdom in October 2015, with full fellowship. His area of interest is Criminology, Victimology, Human Rights and Juvenile Justice Research &Training.
