Lerato Rabatho is an advocate in the courts of law in Lesotho and is in the process of becoming an attorney. She is a project lawyer at Seinoli Legal Centre in Lesotho since 2010. She has been a Judge’s Associate in the High Court of Lesotho. In her current job she develops and implements legal empowerment strategies for communities affected by large infrastructure development projects in Lesotho such as Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP). Lerato has over 10 years of experience in the practice of law. She holds a master’s degree in Labour law and social security, as well as a certificate in compliance management. She is married with two children. Her greatest achievement is securing a judgement which resulted in compensation for one community whose water sources were affected by Phase I of LHWP, which in turn set a precedent for similarly affected communities. Secondly, unlocking monetary compensation for one community whose land and natural resources were affected by Phase I of LHWP more than 10 years after being affected. Lastly, she aspires to be the greatest human rights defender in the region. She is looking to exchange strategies on how to empower communities and how to represent them effectively using law and advocacy.
Lerato Rabatho is the network champion (main point of contact) for Seinoli Legal Center.
