Society for Human Rights Activist (SOHURA) is a fully fledged structured and registered national non-profit organization. It is registered with the national NGO registration Bureau under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Republic of Uganda registration number S. 5914/7470. SOHURA was founded in 2008 to respond to the post war challenges, with primary focus on four themes including (i) Human rights and access to justice (ii) Sexual and Gender based violence (SGBV) (iii) Violence against children (iv) Economic empowerment and livelihood security (v) HIV/AIDS Prevention and Responses (vi) Education and Psychosocial Support Programme.

Overall vision of the organization:
A free society from Human Rights Abuses, ignorance, poverty, preventable and curable diseases.

To bring about a society where attitudes of violence and practices of violence against women and children, poverty, preventable and curable diseases have been transformed.

1. Peace: SOHURA seeks a non-violent means to end the protracted conflict in northern Uganda and advocates for rights of women and children and their communities.
2. Commitment to Humanity: SOHURA believes in respect, dignity, and protection of people and their rights.
3. Love: The love for children and women and the fear of God champion SOHURA
1. Public education, advocacy and networking with like-minded individuals and groups, including men, youth, children and children’s advocates organising against violence.
2. Provision of counselling services.
3. Lobbying for the strengthening of relevant laws and implementation mechanisms where necessary.
4. Fundraising.
SOHURA is made up of three major organs, the General Assembly, the National Executive Committee which also doubles as the Board of Directors and the Secretariat.

Executive Director, Society for Human Rights Activist (SOHURA).
Odoch Jimmy is a C.E.O of SOHURA based in Lira. He has more than 18 years expertise in land rights, social justice experience, working with government, civil society, and private sector to advocate for and implement policies that champion community-driven women and youth programs with an emphasis on their voice, rights-based approaches, and strengthening leadership and capacity development among youth-led networks and organizations. His roles among others also includes:
• Developing and implementing strategies aiming to promote the organization’s mission
• Creating complete action plans for the attainment of goals and objectives set by the board of directors
• Building an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate managers
• Ensuring adherence of the organization’s daily activities and long-term plans to established policies and legal guidelines
• Directing and oversee investments and fundraising efforts for the sustainability of the organization
• Forging and maintain relations of trust with shareholders, partners and external authorities
• Acting as the public speaker and public relations representative of SOHURA in ways that strengthen its profile
Prior to joining founding SOHURA in 2008, Jimmy was Program Officer at War Child Holland in Uganda, a global development agency. Before that, he served as head of Program with Northern Uganda Social Action Fund the Youth Social Mobilization Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office.

He has been instrumental in catalyzing and nurturing the growth of local, national, and global youth social justice movements to push for government accountability and responsiveness, and to put mechanisms in place for meaningful youth engagement to improve resource distribution and service delivery.

Jimmy holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Works and Social Administration (SWASA) from Makerere University.
Odoch have taken interest in joining the network believes that it will enable his organization to:
1. Exchange of knowledge and information among SOHURA and other likeminded NGOs
2. Dissemination of information and knowledge.
3. Strengthen SOHURAs’ capacities and negotiating abilities.
4. Promoting decision-making concepts and mechanisms in SOHURA and other NGOs, at all levels;
5. Cooperating on overcoming economic, political, social, and cultural risks and challenges;
6. Promoting negotiations with decision-makers at all levels;
7. Organizing lobbying and advocacy on human rights, economic and social policy issues;
8. Conducting bold assessments including reporting of human rights abuses/monitoring.
10. It promotes moral support through daily encouragement fr.om each other during interactions.
11. It promotes mutual learning & both organizations get better ways of doing things
12. Meeting new people or likeminded organization will exposes SOHURA to new ideas since each person is talented different
