SAILS is a regional centre of excellence that focuses its efforts on conducting rigorous research and offering advanced post-graduate education in South Asian law and human rights. Its mission is to further the potential of South Asia by identifying the contemporary problems that slow the development of human rights in the region and to promote an understanding of the common trends and traditions of legal systems in South Asian countries. SAILS intends to devise appropriate means for using law as a catalyst of change for stakeholders; adopts innovative ways to implement the economic and social rights of citizens; and identifies ways to use the law to remove obstacles and legally empower the people.

Manzoor Hasan

Mr. Manzoor Hasan is presently the Executive Director of the South Asian Institute for Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS). He is also the Institutional Advisor of BRAC Institute of Governance & Development (BIGD), BRAC University and previously was its Director. Previously Mr. Hasan was the Deputy Executive Director of BRAC. From 1996 to 2003 Mr. Hasan was the founding Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and then moved to Transparency International to become its Regional Director (Asia-Pacific). In 2003 he was awarded the Honour of the Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for his service to TIB.

Mr. Hasan graduated from the London School of Economics. He was then called to the English Bar from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. He practiced civil and commercial law in England and Bangladesh. In the United Kingdom Mr. Hasan was involved with the voluntary sector prior to entering the legal profession. Mr. Hasan is currently the Chair of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Coalition.

I have I have been working in the social development sector since 1995 with focusing on gender, human rights, access to justice, capacity building and M & E. My professional experience covers a full range of funding and project management blended with extensive field experience in diverse geographic locations within Bangladesh. I am experienced in program planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Gradually, my career transitioned into policy and decision-making levels in both national and international organizations. Thoroughly trained in Results Based Management (RBM) both at theoretical and practical levels to effectively plan and manage development projects. I have excellent understanding on gender issues, human rights, community participation, partnership approach, problem solving and communication.
I worked with various national and international organizations in the arena of social development. Presently working with South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) as Program Coordinator.

Shaveta Sharma has worked with development organizations for 14 years with law, human rights and organizational change & development as the focus areas. Prior to joining SAILS in 2015 she worked in India. Shaveta gained her Masters in Social Work from M S University, India.

Zia Uddin is currently working as a Research Assistant at Centre for Peace and Justice, BRAC University. Herein before, he worked with South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS). He also worked in a joint research project between Research and Evaluation Division of BRAC and The University of Cambridge. He is young professional having high interest to work on peace, justice, good governance and human rights issues in Bangladesh. Mr. Zia has completed graduation and post graduation on Public Administration from the University of Dhaka.
