Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology

The Srishti Institute of Art aims to bring together the fields of ecology, law, and design in order to create an interdisciplinary learning environment for students of design, planning and art

Presence in: India
Focus: Citizenship, Education, Environmental Justice, Gender-based violence, Governance, Land & Natural Resources, Women's Rights

The school equips designers and artists to delve in how over time, our ideas of law, environment and planning have and continue to shape people’s relationship to place and nature. We work with current communities to understand how people negotiate ideas of urban and rural, local and global and space and place and become sensitive to context. We develop a critical inquiry into the values of social and ecological justice in our societies, our ways of interacting with the natural and cultural resources of the world to help us mindfully engage in places and communities. Through a focus on heritage and conservation, the school encourages an investigation of the tangible and intangible heritage of a place and its impact on the formation of identity. We believe a deeper understanding of the local cultural relationships to ecology will inform our aspiration for a sustainable future. The school also recognizes the changing perceptions of space and place and encourages students to ask how we define “Place” in an age of digitization and virtual worlds: How do we navigate and negotiate the world in a future, which aims to connect everyone and everything in a seamless network?

The school sees itself as a catalyst that encourages one to investigate this ever-changing relationship between people, place and nature with respect to time. At School of Law, Environment and Planning, students learn to apply a trans-disciplinary approach, understanding various paradigms of environment and law, economy and livelihood, nature and culture, space and governance, city and region. This holistic knowledge takes into account geospatial perspectives in a real and virtual world, along with the highly personal, cognitive, social and experiential understanding of places.
