SurvJustice envisions a world where sexual respect is a norm reinforced by strong institutional responses that ensure accountability for perpetrators while providing support for survivors.

Presence in: United States
Focus: Gender-based violence

SurvJustice is a legal nonprofit, based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to providing justice to survivors of sexual and intimate-partner violence. We accomplish this through policy advocacy to expand victims’ rights, institutional training that builds responsive systems, and legal assistance that holds accountable both perpetrators and enablers of sexual violence in campus, criminal, and civil systems. By working on these fronts, SurvJustice is creating accountability that reduces the prevalence of campus sexual violence throughout the United States. Founded in 2014, it is still the only national organization that provides legal assistance to survivors in campus hearings across the country.

SurvJustice, Inc. is a survivor-founded, survivor-led, D.C.-based national not-for-profit. Our mission is to increase the prospect of justice for all survivors of sexual violence through effective legal assistance that holds accountable both perpetrators and enablers in campus, civil, and criminal systems. SurvJustice is the only national nonprofit that provides legal assistance to survivors in campus hearings across the country. To date, SurvJustice has received more than 800 requests for assistance from survivors in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Our 4 organizational goals::

1. Assist survivors of any sex, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation;

2. Advance the recognition within communities and among policy makers that sexual violence exists along a spectrum that includes rape, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and other forms of gender– and sexual identity–based violence;

3. Enforce victims’ rights within any system of justice to empower survivors and prevent re-victimization when accessing justice; and

4. Advance survivor justice whether through criminal conviction, civil remedy, administrative sanction, systematic institutional change, or acknowledgment by perpetrators and enablers of wrongdoing.
