We are currently operating in Dar es salaam, Tanzania. Our Mission is to create and maintain a just society through legal education and our Vision is to improve legal literacy for social change.

The Public Legal Education Organization, was founded in 2019 and obtained it’s official registration on August of 2022, with registration number 00NGO/R/2179.

We want to empower our society by increasing people’s skills, confidence and capabilities to better understand the law; by bridging the gap between the law and the people it relates to,  through providing useful and practical information on the law, the leagl system and democratic processes that affect the daily lives of law abiding citizens.Our target audience are;

  • Women
  • Children
  • Disabled people
  • Youth and the elderly
  • Widows
  • Accused people
  • Employees and retired people

Our objectives

  • To improve access to justice by providing education on procedural and substantive law for the purpose of self help in legal matters.
  •  To facilitate citizenship development and social inclusion by helping the society understand it’s rights and responsibilities, which will impart more confidence to participate in democratic processes.

Our Projects

  • Mradi wa bodaboda na bajaji

The organization is currently working on providing legal education to bodaboda (motorcycle drivers) and bajaji (tutuk drivers) service providers on unfair contracts, ADR and on initiating policy change.

  • Jiokoe

This project will be directed towards those accused of crimes and can’t afford legal representation. PLEO hopes to provide paralegals to help with legal counsel, drafting legal documents and track witnesses. We will also educate on defence, court proceedings, types of cases and the likes, for the purposes of self help.
