T.A.M was originally known as Transparency and Accountability Group (T.A.G) in the year 2013 to 2017 prior to registration. When we started, we did several community sensitizations and one sensitization rally on the 27 April 2014 (Sierra Leone’s Independence day) to help raise awareness about the dangers of corruption to our nation. Transparency International (TI) was the driving force towards our vision for a record low corruption index as against the 84% stated on it report 2014 or if possible an elimination of corruption within our societies and Country at large. To this end however, we came to the realisation to register the group and do things in a more legal and formal approach. We went for the registration and during the process, we were informed about the statutory restriction on the use of the word ” Group ” and we were left with no other option but to change it to” movement” instead. We were able to secure a successful registration in March 2017 and since then, we have being working on our planned activities as in our work plan schedule before registration. However, moving as planned thus need a legal backing and consultations before we invoke any action community wise. Our first plan is to comprehensively explain the personal legal rights given to each Ward as enshrine in the Local Government Act 2004. This act clearly states the power of any ward within a constituency to take charge of it affairs as an independent block. We planned to do such involving relevant stakeholders within the ward/community and relating issues of importance to the local government act. We believe this will create a pivotal turn around on how we preserve governance and thus encourage national involvement in monitoring public officials, accounts and funds. Citizens will be more concern knowing their is a legal instrument backing their actions against corruption, embezzlement and misappropriation of public fund by those in charge of public positions. God bless us all.
