Abel Katongo Longwe is a Zambian lawyer admitted to the Zambian Bar to practice as a Barrister. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Lusaka, Zambia. He is currently a Master of Laws (LLM) Candidate specialising in Refugee Law and Human Rights, and International Protection of Women’s Human Rights and International Protection of Children’s rights at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa. He has a keen interest in and is passionate about the rights of the marginalised, specifically women, children and refugees, and as a consequence of this is a volunteer at the University of Cape Town’s Refugee Rights Clinic, a law clinic registered with Cape Law Society. His work at the Refugee Rights Clinic centres on providing legal services to refugees and asylum seekers by providing legal assistance to them throughout asylum application processes, assistance in access to rights, access to justice, and assisting the UNHCR in their voluntary repatriation programme.
